THE BRONX - The shooting of three police officers in Brooklyn and The Bronx last week has reignited a call for the death penalty for criminals convicted of killing cops.

Brooklyn's Republican state Sen. Marty Golden took the fight to his Facebook page saying, "We can no longer sit back and watch ruthless murderers take the lives of police officers...New York needs the death penalty to protect our society and our police officers who risk their lives every day for our safety and well-being."

Off-duty officer Juan Pichardo was among the three officers wounded. He had been working at his family's car dealership in Williamsbridge when he was shot during an attempted armed robbery.
