Officers reassigned following escape of BX fugitive

THE BRONX - NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly says some officers have been reassigned following the escape of a Bronx fugitive earlier this week. Kelly says the officers made a serious mistake by not monitoring Jose Rodriguez more closely, but that disciplinary action has not been taken. He says the officers have been reassigned to administrative duty, pending the outcome of an investigation

Rodriguez was wanted in connection with a Bronx shooting spree earlier this month. Officials say he escaped from police by looping his cuffed hands through his legs and driving off in the unmarked police car he was sitting in.

After a massive manhunt, Rodriguez was apprehended at a hotel in Connecticut.

Kelly has not said how many officers were reassigned.
