BAYCHESTER - Officials are hoping shiny new trash cans will help keep one part of Baychester cleaner.

It's out with the old and in with what Councilman Andy King is calling "high-end trash cans."

King has allocated more than $5,000 to the Department of Sanitation for the new "green machines."

Some of the new trash bins have already been placed at Gun Hill Road and White Plains Road, between Dewitt Place and Sexton Place, at Peartree Avenue and Co-Op City Boulevard, at Tillotson Avenue and Conner Street, and at Steenwick Avenue and Boston Road.

Residents can expect a total of 61 new green machines in the area.
