Officials investigate Rikers Island fights

THE BRONX - Officials are investigating two fights at Rikers Island that injured 16 officers.

According to officials, the fights broke out among inmates around 6:30 p.m. at the Otis Bantum Corrections Center. They say 16 officers were attacked when they tried to break up the fights.

The officers were taken to Booth Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No charges have been filed against the inmates yet.
