Officials: Man tried to abduct girl by P.S. 33

THE BRONX - A man allegedly tried to abduct an 8-year-old girl near her school this morning, according to city school officials.

A city schools spokeswoman says that the man approached the third-grade girl this morning near stairs at the entrance to P.S. 33 on Jerome Avenue. The girl was on her way to the school.

The girl ran away from the man and entered the school, and the principal contacted her parents and the police. City school officials say the girl is now with her parents, and the incident is being handled by police.

The Department of Education (DOE) says some of the school's younger children were also released to their parents.

According to parents, a similar incident happened at P.S. 33 once before.
