THE BRONX - Officials with the Parks Department patrolled the city's beaches Saturday to keep people safe ahead of Irene's arrival.

Officials say they issued summonses to anyone caught on the beaches ahead of the storm.

In Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, residents were ordered to evacuate since they reside within evacuation zone A, some of the most flood-prone areas of the city.

However, some residents said they had no intention of leaving their homes and instead waited for the storm to blow through.
