THE BRONX - Officials have confirmed a small plane landed on the northbound side of the Major Deegan Expressway this afternoon.

The city’s Office of Emergency Management says the plane was carrying three passengers out of Danbury, Conn. for a tour of the Statue of Liberty.

The plane experienced an unknown emergency on its way back from New York City and made a controlled emergency landing near 233rd Street.

Officials say all three passengers were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.

Miguel Lopez, a Department of Transportation truck driver, says he saw the plane coming down while he was filling potholes on the Major Deegan. He said he slowed down cars to make sure the drivers were safe.

Lopez says he escorted the passengers from the plane to his vehicle so they could stay warm.
