One-time suspect in Etan Patz case arrested in BX

The man who had once been the prime suspect in the 1979 Etan Patz kidnapping case was arrested again by a Bronx special victims detective.

THE BRONX - The man who had once been the prime suspect in the 1979 Etan Patz kidnapping case was arrested again by a Bronx special victims detective.

According to police, 69-year-old convicted pedophile Jose Ramos was released from a Pennsylvania prison after more than 20 years. They say he was quickly taken back into custody for failing to accurately report his whereabouts when registering as a sex offender.

Authorities say Ramos told them he was staying with his cousin at 944 Leggett Ave. in The Bronx, but his cousin had moved from that address more than 30 years ago. She also said she doesn't want Ramos staying with her family.

Earlier this year, Pedro Hernandez was named a new suspect in the Patz case. He was charged with murder after cops say he confessed.
