THE BRONX - Opening statements were given today in the trial of a former Bronx housing officer who's accused of killing his wife and dumping her body. Eddy Coello, 41, is charged with second-degree murder for allegedly beating and choking his wife, Tina Adovasio, to death in their Bronx home. Prosecutors say they have surveillance video from a neighbor's home that shows Coello putting the body in his car. Adovasio's remains were later recovered off of the Taconic Parkway. Coello's attorney did not say much except that it was "not an intentional murder," and that the two had a tumultuous relationship. Court records indicate that Coello has a history of domestic abuse.

The first witness to take the stand today was Adovasio's son, who was 16 years old at the time of her death. The second witness was Adovasio's cousin, a police officer in Westchester and the first to see the victim's body and ID her.
