Opening of Pelham Bay Park restrooms delayed

Bronx residents planning to celebrate Memorial Day at Pelham Bay Park will be dealing with a big inconvenience due to a delay in the opening

THE BRONX - Bronx residents planning to celebrate Memorial Day at Pelham Bay Park will be dealing with a big inconvenience due to a delay in the opening of new public restrooms.

Parkgoers say the bathrooms have been closed for renovations for more than a year, leaving them to go somewhere else or use portable toilets. Many say the construction is frustrating and that they now plan to visit a different park during the upcoming holiday weekend.

The city's Department of Parks and Recreation says that ongoing structural problems led to the delay and that the bathrooms are expected to be open to the public in July.
