Orchard Beach remains open to swimmers

THE BRONX - As Hurricane Bill makes its way north, all city beaches have closed down except for one.

Orchard Beach in Pelham Bay Park is the only city beach that remains open and safe for swimmers. The Parks Department is not allowing swimming at any other beach due to strong rip currents.

The waters at Orchard Beach are still calm because it sits along the Long Island Sound, while all other city beaches border the Atlantic Ocean.
