THE BRONX - A series of summer storms, capped off by Hurricane Irene, made August a difficult month for vendors at Orchard Beach.

The workers say they depend on the weather to keep revenue up, which has been difficult to do. One vendor says this August was the worst month he's had in 25 years of working at the beach.

Orchard Beach will shut down for the season after Labor Day. Vendors say they hope this weekend will bring warm, sunny skies so that they can make up for some of the lost business.
