THE BRONX - Hundreds of Bronx students are doing their part to spread awareness about helping the environment by walking to school today.

P.S. 24 in Spuyten Duyvil is among the roughly half a dozen Bronx schools whose students hit the pavement with their parents instead of taking the bus. The walk, referred to as a community school bus, is partly in celebration of Earth Day, which is coming up on Monday.

Organizers say the event has been happening since 2009, and that the walk not only highlights concern for the environment, but also emphasizes the importance of pedestrian safety and increasing physical activity.
