P.S. 51 to be moved due to contamination

THE BRONX - Students who attend P.S. 51 will not be returning to the same building this fall.

The Department of Education and the principal sent out a letter to parents earlier this month saying the Bedford Park elementary school will be closed due to TCE contamination. TCE is an industrial solvent that does not have immediate health risks.

Parents and staff plan to attend a public meeting tonight to discuss options for the new school year. Chancellor Dennis Walcott and other officals say they will attend and dicuss a possible relocation of the school. The meeting will be held at the Bronx High School of Science at 75 West 205th St. at 6 p.m.
