A series of bills to provide paid leave for workers has passed the state Assembly hurdle.

The legislation would allow employees to take time off and still receive their paychecks for medical emergencies, the birth or adoption of a child, and to take care of an ill relative. It's also intended to provide affordable child care and increase funding for child care subsidies.
