Paladino begins damage control following anti-gay remarks

THE BRONX - Republican candidate for governor Carl Paladino was in hot water today after making anti-gay comments while campaigning in Brooklyn.

During a speech in Williamsburg yesterday, Paladino told a group of Orthodox Jewish leaders that he doesn't want children "to be brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality" is acceptable.

Paladino was confronted about his comments during the Columbus Day parade in Manhattan today and said he is "unequivocally pro-gay rights, except for one thing, gay marriage."

Paladino's Democratic opponent, Andrew Cuomo, called the remarks a "glaring disregard for basic equality."

The GOP gubernatorial candidate said there is nothing to be proud of for being gay.
