THE BRONX - Parents of students attending P.S. 24 in Riverdale appealed to the Department of Education Wednesday to alleviate overcrowding at the school.
They say the school is only meant to fit around 600 students, but there are currently about 1,000 enrolled.
Parents say overcrowding has worsened for the last six to seven years, and next month, an annex for fifth-graders will shut down.
Critics say the school is admitting too many students who don't actually live in the district while there's also been a surge in new families moving into the neighborhood.
The DOE says it can't make any changes until it has a permanent principal at the school — which is currently overseen by an interim administrator.
