Parents, DOT fight over safety sign near P.S. 24

RIVERDALE - Parents in Riverdale say they are frustrated that the Department of Transportation (DOT) keeps taking down a safety sign near P.S. 24.

The sign warns drivers to slow down and was put up at the beginning of last year. Since then it has been removed several times by the DOT.

Members of the Parent Association at P.S. 24 say they paid for the sign out of the organization's budget and that they wouldn't need it if the DOT would put up a stop sign there.

The DOT says the sign is being removed because it is illegal.

The Community Board 8 chair says he plans to bring the issue up at the next meeting and work with the DOT to remedy the situation.
