RIVERDALE - A group of parents are taking matters into their own hands to stop double parking in front of P.S. 24 in Riverdale.

Parents say many people double park on Independence Avenue in front of the school and walk their children to the front door, creating dangerous traffic jams. A crossing guard outside the school agreed, saying she's seen cars making illegal U-turns outside the school and even parking in the crosswalk.

"They are creating a hazardous condition for pedestrians, and drivers can't see what's coming around the corner," says parent Cliff Stanton.

Members of the Parents Association are now leaving fliers on cars not following the proper drop-off procedure, asking them to do the right thing. They also hope to get help from the 50th Precinct.
