THE BRONX - Parents and students pounded the pavement toward their classrooms for National Walk Your Child to School Day.

P.S. 24 Spuyten Duyvil is among the schools nationwide taking part in the annual event, which aims to get children to walk to school every day as part of a healthy lifestyle.

The initiative also promotes being kind to the environment by helping to keep more cars off the roads. The National Parent Teacher Association encourages all neighborhoods to support the idea by organizing a walking school bus instead of driving.

Participating students get a healthy snack and souvenir button.
