PARKCHESTER - Some parents in Parkchester are worried for their kids’ safety after the recent release of several recreation staff members.

Parents, their kids and former employees are now demanding the staff be re-hired. Residents say the rec staff was more than just a group of baby sitters; they were the cornerstone of the community -- mediating fights, providing first aid and keeping their children out of harm’s way.

Former Parkchester employees say they were told a new Boys and Girls Club will replace the recreation staff. News 12 called the chief asset manager of the Parkchester board three times but the calls were never returned.

Residents say they plan to meet with members of the Parkchester Condominium Community Board on July 3.
