THE BRONX - Parkchester residents say the start of heavy construction in their neighborhood is already causing major traffic problems.

Residents say the initial digging for the project has torn up major sections of East Tremont Avenue and Unionport Road. The Department of Design and Construction says it plans to replace underground water mains, catch basins and piping as well as landscape the area.

The $14.5 million project will take two more years to complete, according to the DDC. Residents say that?s too long and they want a solution to the traffic tie-up as soon as possible.
