THE BRONX - Residents who want to park on Bronx streets may have to cough up more money today.

The Department of Transportation says it has replaced standard parking meters with muni-meters and hiked up rates. The new rates will be a $1 per hour for short-term parking and $8 per day at long-term metered spaces.

The city says it is in the process of replacing all single-space meters with muni-meters. These meters are more visible, have a pay-and-display system and free up space on sidewalk.

The increased rates go into effect today. Residents are asked to make sure check their parking spots for the new meters.
