THE BRONX - A criminal investigation is underway after a city Department of Parks & Recreation crew found drugs in a Bronx park over the weekend.

Parks personnel discovered a stash of drugs Sunday afternoon while surveying the University Woods park in University Heights.

According to NYC Park Advocates, the stash contained more than 500 bags of heroin, two disposable cellphones and a box cutter. A large amount of rice remained at the scene, used to keep moisture away from the product.

The evidence was taken to NYPD's 52nd Precinct. The investigation is ongoing.
