Part of Van Cortland Park to reopen this month

THE BRONX - The northern portion of Van Cortlandt Park is expected to reopen to visitors at the end of this month after a nearly yearlong, multimillion-dollar makeover.

The 65-acre green space has been under construction since last summer as the Department of Parks has worked on installing new ball fields and irrigation systems. However, the renovation project has caused many park goers to be confined to a small section of the park.

The new northern part of the park will feature a stadium field, six soccer fields, four ball fields and a portion of a cross-country running track.

The southern part of the park won't be open until next spring.
