Passenger allegedly assaults BX bus driver over dog dispute

THE BRONX - A Bronx bus driver was hospitalized after an attack yesterday by a passenger who was told she couldn't bring her dog aboard, police say.

Investigators say Steangeli Medina had her dog under her jacket when she tried to board the Bx9 bus at the East Fordham Road and 3rd Avenue stop.

When driver Marlene Bien-Aime told her the dog needed to be in a crate, Medina allegedly grabbed her by the hair, yanked her off the bus and started beating her on the street.

Officials say other passengers on the bus rushed to Bien-Aime's assistance, restraining Medina until police arrived.

Medina has been charged with assault, menacing and harassment, according to officials.

Assaulting a transit worker is a felony and carries a punishment of up to seven years in prison.
