THE BRONX - A one-time pastor and principal of a school in the Bronx was sentenced to 10 years in jail today for raping two teenage girls.

Prosecutors say Michael Clare, 41, raped a 13-year-old member of his congregation in March 2007 when he was pastor at Harvest Worship Center International. The second victim, a 14-year-old girl, was raped in September 2009. She was a student at the church's affiliated school where Clare had served as principal.

Both incidents happened at Clare's house on Quincy Avenue.

The district attorney read impact statements from both victims' mothers, saying Clare betrayed their trust and caused them turmoil.

Clare's sentence was part of a plea deal to prevent the case from going to trial so that the victims wouldn't have to testify.
