NEW YORK - (AP) - An aide to New York Gov. David Paterson hassurrendered on an assault charge in the 2009 domestic violence casethat touched off an evidence-tampering investigation in Albany.

The Bronx district attorney's office says David Johnsonsurrendered around 9:30 a.m. Thursday on misdemeanor charges.

The case stems from a confrontation last Halloween. Histhen-girlfriend, Sherr-una Booker, called police to say Johnson hadchoked her and thrown her against a mirror.

The case was initially handled in Family Court and droppedwithout prejudice because Booker did not appear for a hearing.
