Pedestrian struck, killed while crossing Major Deegan

A pedestrian was struck and killed Friday morning while trying to cross the Major Deegan Expressway. The accident happened just after 5:30 a.m. Police say a 53-year-old man was fatally struck by a Nissan Altima when attempting to cross the expressway going south by exit 11.

VAN CORTLANDT PARK - A pedestrian was struck and killed Friday morning while trying to cross the Major Deegan Expressway.

The accident happened just after 5:30 a.m. Police say a 53-year-old man was fatally struck by a Nissan Altima when attempting to cross the expressway going south by exit 11.

Medical examiners and police were at the scene for hours and say the pedestrian, whose identity hasn't been released, was dead upon arrival.

The driver of the car that fatally hit the pedestrian remained at the scene. The accident caused major traffic delays Friday morning.
