THE BRONX - An elephant is the headliner for the UniverSoul Circus, and now PETA is asking parents and kids to think twice before attending the show in the Bronx.

PETA volunteers stood outside P.S. 130 in the Bronx Wednesday to educate children about the mistreatment of animals at the circus. They gave out pamphlets to parents and coloring books to children in an effort to make them think twice before buying tickets for the circus.

Reports say that Atlanta police cited a trainer and marketing director with animal cruelty last month after an elephant was dragged offstage with a bull hook.

PETA is hoping UniverSoul Circus follows the latest trend in the circus industry by phasing out elephants from their shows.
