THE BRONX - Police have released surveillance images of three men who forcibly stole a cell phone in Longwood last week.

According to authorities, a 42-year-old man was walking on Southern Boulevard at around 8 p.m. on June 10 when the suspects came up and snatched his phone right out of his hands. The victim did not report any injuries.

The incident is the latest in a string of smartphone thefts citywide, including one in Fordham Heights on June 6, and another in Soundview on May 31.

New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and other officials nationwide have responded with the "Save Our Smartphones" initiative. It encourages cell phone companies to help come up with a plan to reduce thefts and other phone-related crimes.
