Police: 11-year-old girl sexually assaulted

THE BRONX - Police say an 11-year-old girl was sexually abused while riding the elevator in her friend's apartment building.

The girl's father, Victor, who asked to give just his first name, says his daughter's friend called him after the alleged incident. Authorities say a man named Adam rode the elevator with Victor's daughter, pulled down her pants, sexually assaulted her and escaped to the roof when the doors of the elevator opened on the fourth floor.

Residents say the building lacks security and the gate to the complex is frequently unlocked.

Police say there are cameras in the elevator, though they are unsure if surveillance video is available from the time of the alleged incident. Authorities ask anyone with information about the reported assault to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
