WOODLAWN - Police are looking for the driver they say fatally struck a pedestrian early this morning, then drove off.

Police say they got a 911 call about a pedestrian who had been struck by a car at around 3:30 a.m. They found 26-year-old Kevin Bell with severe injuries laying in the street at the intersection of East 233rd Street and Oneida Avenue. The car that hit him was gone.

Investigators say Bell was hit by a dark colored vehicle. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

James Moynagh, a friend of Bell's, says they were with friends at a bar on the Upper West Side. He says Bell left earlier than the rest of the group, but did not hear from him later.

Bell had come to the U.S. from Ireland 10 months ago to work in construction. Friends say he enjoyed playing soccer on a local team.
