THE BRONX - A ninth suspect is in custody for last week's alleged anti-gay beating of three people in University Heights, according to police.
Officials say Ruddy Vargas-Perez, 22, was apprehended by NYPD officers today just before 5 p.m.
Vargas-Perez and eight other suspected gang members are accused of torturing, beating and sodomizing three men after hearing that one of their gang recruits was gay.
The other eight suspects were arraigned yesterday and have been charged with robbery, assault, sexual abuse and unlawful imprisonment as hate crimes.
Bail was set at $100,000 for two of the defendants, Steven Carabello and Dennis Piters. The other six suspects are being held without bail.
The suspects are due back in court Thursday.
