Police: Cabbie hits resident after refusing Bronx fare

(AP) - Police say a New York City cab driver whorefused to drive a group of passengers from Manhattan to The Bronxrammed two of them

THE BRONX - (AP) - Police say a New York City cab driver whorefused to drive a group of passengers from Manhattan to The Bronxrammed two of them with his taxi before fleeing. Both were injured,one critically. Mohammed Azam was charged Monday with assault and leaving thescene of an accident. He was ordered held on $100,000 bail. Hisattorney denies Azam committed any crime. Police say four men hailed Azam's taxi in Midtown Manhattan atabout 4 a.m. Sunday. When Azam refused to take them to The Bronx, the four told himhe was obligated to - which is true under law. They argued, andAzam drove to a police precinct, where the four got out of the car. Police say Azam rammed into two of them before driving off. Onewas listed in critical condition, the other in stable.
