Police chase in Westchester ends in fatal shooting in the Bronx

THE BRONX - The Pelham Manor Police Department and the NYPD are investigating an officer-involved fatal shooting this evening that involved a Pelham Manor police officer in the Eastchester section of the Bronx.

Police say a Pelham Manor officer was chasing 43-year-old Wardell Johnson Jr. on an all-terrain vehicle into the Bronx when Johnson got off the ATV and fled on foot into a backyard. When the officer caught up to the man, a fight ensued where the man allegedly tried to take the officer's gun.

Investigators say the officer fired two shots at the man, killing him.

The NYPD is investigating how the chase began and what led up to the subsequent shooting.
