Police: Gunman fired at officer in Wakefield

WAKEFIELD - Police arrested a Bronx man they say opened fire on an officer in Wakefield.

Authorities say 25-year-old Darren Morris fired at least two shots at an NYPD officer who was responding to a 911 call about a crime in progress at 4066 Ely Ave. Officers say the shots were fired just before 9:30 p.m. Friday.

Morris was charged with felony assault on a police officer, authorities say. The officer who was allegedly shot at was not hit.
