THE BRONX - Children in the Bronx laced up their cleats for a flag football tournament against police officers from the 47th Precinct on Tuesday.

The goal of the tournament was to teach kids the rules of the game and offer lifelong advice to them.

Ten precincts went head-to-head in the series, made up of boys and girls from all over the Bronx.

Officers said it helps keep the children focused, something they hope will stick with them when it comes to their education.

"If you could run, if you can hustle, if you can catch the ball, you can do great in school," said Victor Mantos, of Bronx Youth Services. "It's all about applying yourself. Every time we have these games, we also try to help them out and push them, because these are our future leaders."
