Police make arrest in ice-pick robberies

THE BRONX - Police say a Bronx man wanted in connection with numerous robberies has been arrested in New Jersey.

Officials say the so-called "ice-pick bandit," 39-year-old John Martinez, would follow women into elevators in Co-op City, demand their property and take off. They say he was armed with an ice pick or a knife.

New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says an anonymous tip led authorities to Martinez.
