Police make arrest in shooting of off-duty detective

THE BRONX - Police say they have made an arrest in yesterday's shooting of an off-duty detective in the Bronx.

According to police, Samuel Ventura is accused of opening fire on Detective Richard Olmo after an argument in the parking lot of the Pelham Diner just after 5 a.m. They say the disagreement was sparked when Ventura hit Olmo's vehicle.

Officials say Olmo, 43, was shot in the back and taken to Jacobi Medical Center. Sources say he has been on the force for 15 years.
