NEW YORK - Police say a man is facing charges after he tried to rob a uniformed NYPD officer.

Officials say 24-year-old Joshua Muniz came up behind Officer Daniel Mervis on a subway platform Saturday morning.

Muniz allegedly shouted to the officer to open his pockets but Mervis turned around and pulled out his gun, ordering Muniz to drop his straight edge razor.

Police say the suspect continued to approach Mervis but eventually dropped the razor.

Muniz now faces attempted robbery and weapon possession charges.
