Police: Officer wounded in Hunts Point shooting

THE BRONX - Police are investigating a shooting in Hunts Point that left one officer injured overnight.

Investigators say shots were fired at a police vehicle at the intersection of Lafayette and Bryant avenues in the early hours of the morning after a high-speed police chase.

Authorities say they began pursuing the vehicle in connection with a shooting that occurred just hours prior.

The identity of the injured officer has not yet been released and his condition is unknown. The suspect was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Neighbors say the area where the incident took place is very dangerous, and shootings are commonplace.
