Police presence up at Soundview housing complex

SOUNDVIEW - With a recent spike in crime around the James Monroe Houses in Soundview, the city is putting more NYPD officers on the ground near the apartment complex.

James Monroe residents say they welcome the added security, with one saying she feels safer with the abundance of police officers in the area. But even with the extra police, parents say they're concerned for the well-being of their children, as there is nowhere safe for them to go.

The added security came after a spike in crime in the past month, including two shootings in the neighborhood that happened just hours apart.
