THE BRONX - (AP) - Police say dozens of roosters have been removedfrom the basement of a Bronx apartment building where a large groupof people watched a cockfight.

Police say eight people were arrested Friday night, and 69spectators were issued summonses.

Police say 47 roosters were found. Animal Care & Control of NewYork City says the birds have been taken to veterinarians forevaluation. If they were cockfighting roosters, they will likely beeuthanized.

A spokesman for the organization says roosters used in fightscan't be rehabilitated.

Police say federal law enforcement authorities led the effort toshut down the cockfight.
