THE BRONX - Police say that officers shot and killed an armed 19-year-old while responding to a domestic violence call in Tremont.

The shooting happened at around 8 a.m. Wednesday in the Twin Parks South West building at 2000 Valentine Ave.

According to the NYPD, officers entered an apartment to find the suspect, identified as Isiah Hampton, pacing back and forth. When ordered to come to the front door, police say Hampton refused and entered a bedroom, closing the door behind him.

The officers then heard screams coming from a female inside the bedroom, police say. The officers opened the door to see the suspect allegedly holding a gun to the head of a 19-year-old woman believed to be his girlfriend. She managed to break free, and Hampton then pointed his gun at the officers, at which time a sergeant and another officer fired, hitting him multiple times in the chest, according to police. He was pronounced dead at Saint Barnabas Hospital.

The woman was also taken to the hospital with a graze wound after being shot in the shoulder by the suspect, police say. She also received multiple stitches as a result of being pistol-whipped. The officers involved were treated for tinnitus at the hospital.

Officials say Hampton had five prior arrests and was on parole for robbery.

A .38-caliber revolver was recovered at the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
