THE BRONX - A man was shot and wounded by a police officer in Longwood Friday night after he allegedly ignored orders to drop a pair of big kitchen knives.

Officials says the 30-year-man was hit in the arm and torso, but was in stable condition at Lincoln Hospital.

According to police, the shooting happened after they were called to the Morris Houses on 149th Street to deal with a man threatening his neighbors with two large knives.

Police say the officer opened fire when the man advanced towardhim carrying a knife in each hand.

The name of the officer and the suspect were not immediatelyreleased.

Neighbors say before the shooting, the suspect, who had been drinking, was attacked while walking his dog in a park and became upset.
