THE BRONX - A student is expected to be OK after being slashed inside a classroom by another student at a special-needs school in the Bronx, according to police.

The slashing happened at P.S. 723X on Bivona Street.

Police say a 14-year-old with special needs slashed another 14-year-old student in the stomach inside the classroom around lunchtime.

A source on the scene says it appeared to be just a small cut.

The victim was transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where he is recovering and expected to be OK.

The other teenager is in police custody. A source says the teenager brought a knife to the school after being bullied for the last few weeks.

According to the P.S. 723X website, the classes have no more than 12 students at a time, and there is always at least one teacher and one additional staff member on hand.

One worker at the school told News 12 that many of the children at the school have behavioral issues, but says this is the first time something this violent has happened inside the building.

The Department of Education tells News 12 that students and staff are safe and the agency is working closely with the NYPD as they conduct an investigation.
