Baker is unable to see out of his left eye for now, but will return to the doctor next month for an update.

THE BRONX - A 68-year-old man was attacked by a man with a butcher knife Monday afternoon just blocks from his home.

Victor Baker says he was waiting to pick up his grandson from school at 1385 Prospect Ave. when a man crossed the street and began slashing his face with the knife. Baker says he has no idea who the man is and wants to know why he was targeted in this attack.

The suspect has been identified by police as 27-year-old Joel Alvarez Melendez. Police say he is being charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Baker is unable to see out of his left eye for now, but will return to the doctor next month for an update.
