THE BRONX - Police say they found a Bronx woman stabbed to death in her apartment on University Avenue Monday.

Officials say they found Maxine Collier, 48, after responding to a 911 call. According to police, she was found with her throat slashed and multiple stab wounds.

Neighbors say Collier was a mother of one and an active member of her community. Some tenants say they are concerned about safety.

"I feel that we could've been avoided if the tenants would be more involved in the security of these buildings," said Tammy Truesdale, a amember of the Sedgewick Houses Tenants Association. Police say they are still investigating the murder.
