THE BRONX - Police say a 57-year-old woman was fatally stabbed this morning on the balcony of a Needham Avenue apartment building.

Police say a 53-year-old male suspect, believed to be the victim's boyfriend, allegedly stabbed the woman with a kitchen knife around 8:30 a.m. at 1835 Needham Ave.

When police arrived on the scene, an officer shot the suspect, who released the woman while he retreated back into the apartment, according to authorities.

Officials say the woman was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where she later died.

A hostage negotiation team was able to talk the suspect out of the apartment. He was also taken to Jacobi Medical Center to be treated for a gunshot wound, according to police.
